The Manila Episcopal Area held its Workers Convocation in Baguio City with the theme “Radical Vitality in Discipleship” with speaker Bishop Robert Schnase of the Missouri Conference and Bishop Daniel Arichea Jr ad interim bishop of MEA last October 11 – 13, 2012.
In pursuit of the United Methodist Church goal of Vital Congregations, Bishop Robert Schnase shares his ideas from his book “Five practices of Fruitful Congregations” to the church workers of the MEA. The same convocation was also held for the Baguio Episcopal Area. Inspite of the report that the Philippine church was growing compared to the declining membership of US churches it is good to know the perspective of church growth from United Methodist perspective.
Bishop Schnase acknowledges that though there are many practices of churches where they can grow and be vital the five practices which are – Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Risk taking Mission and Extragavant Generousity are important practices that can make congregations vital. There is also a moment where workers formed into groups for discussion where they can tackle about how they can incorporate it into their church.
Ruth Arichea, the wife of Bishop Arichea was given a chance to talk about Vital Worship and Bishop Airchea speaks on the Church Workers and the Bible and Biblical Interpretation.
Church Workers from Quezon province has attended the event and were subsidized by the MEA office knowing the financial situation of the churches.
