Lopez celebrates 20 years of being a mission congregation

Lopez Mission of the United Methodist Church in Quezon District under the Southern Tagalog Philippines Provisional Annual Conference which currently renting a house for its sanctuary in Barangay Gomez along the property of Philippine National Railway held its 20th anniversary of mission in the area. Rev. Nonilio Talisic, an ordained elder of the Bicol Provisional Philippines Annual Conference of the Central District was the guest speaker for the Anniversary Worship Service last February 24, 2013.

They also conducted an evangelistic crusade on Friday before the Anniversary Sunday which held a free film viewing entitled “Journey Home”. The speaker was also Pastor Talisic.

Pastor Talisic was the cousin of Pastor Vincent “Boy” Pacto the student pastor assigned in Lopez Mission. Pastor Boy is a pre-theological student pastor and studying at Philippine Normal University – Lopez Branch and taking up Bachelor of Arts in Education. It was his second year in this mission congregation.

The worship service was also attended by Rev. DS Joseph Flores of Quezon District and with Rev. Mervin Montano. Present also is Volunteer in Mission Daisy Francia of Kalinangan UMC.

The congregation grew through young people’s ministries which some of them are involved in the praise and worship team of the church. Lopez mission was known for its majority young people members. The young people’s organization UMYF was also strengthened by involvement of Pastor Boy in the Campus Christian organization of his school in which he became the president.

The Lopez Mission was a mission efforts Calauag United Methodist Church and supported by Taytay United Methodist Church. It was Taytay United Methodist Church (from the town of Taytay, Rizal) from Rizal Philippines Annual Conference East formerly part of now defunct Philippines Annual Conference East which established two local churches in the town of Calauag, Quezon Province.
