The United Methodist Church – Disciples of Christ a small group and accountable discipleship program was lectured to 23 church workers and some lay people from each of the churches of the Quezon District by its author Rev. DS Magusig “John” Manalo last November 13 and 14, 2013 at the AUMCS Activity Room of the Atimonan United Methodist Church at Atimonan, Quezon.

The program was part of the discipleship thrust of the Manila Episcopal Area resident bishop – Bishop Rudy Juan in which he envisioned to adopt a small group system for accountable discipleship for all United Methodist in Manila Area and if possible to the whole country. Rev. DS John Manalo designed the program from the popular discipleship system which were applied to many evangelical churches known as the G 12. According to DS John, the G12 is an inspiration of the small group or cell group system implemented in David Yonggi Cho’s church in Korea and also based from the Wesley’s class system – the old term for cell group or small group. No matter how you call it, it refers to a system of discipleship grouped into small numbers of individuals agreed to watch each others progress in the faith. And leaders of the group are not necessary members of the clergy or pastors but lay men who were willing themselves are in the process of growth and willing to serve others by guiding them into each spiritual growth.

The small group also focus on the use of personal devotion reflections as sources of discussion and reflection a more inspirational than doctrinal. Doctrine and theology can be discussed on a different venue called as Bible studies.

The 2 day session was part of the “tour” of DS John to Southern Tagalog Provisional Conference and in which he also conducted the same seminar to Laguna District last November 15 and 16.
